Welcome to the Jessie Trice Community Health System Family Medicine Residency!

The Jessie Trice Community Health System Family Medicine Residency is an innovative training program committed to fostering compassionate and competent physician leaders within the community. Our primary objective is to develop exceptional family physicians dedicated to providing high-quality care.

Resident physicians will rotate through a comprehensive range of services offered at Jessie Trice, including pediatrics, women’s health, psychiatry, behavioral health, optometry, and podiatry.

Our goal is to train a highly skilled and compassionate cohort of board-certified Family Medicine physicians equipped to provide comprehensive care to the community across various settings.

Based at Jessie Trice Community Health System, a federally qualified health center (FQHC) serving low-income and medically underserved residents of Miami-Dade County since 1967, our residency offers a unique training environment with diverse outpatient opportunities. Resident physicians will rotate through a comprehensive range of services offered at Jessie Trice, including pediatrics, women’s health, psychiatry, behavioral health, optometry, and podiatry. Additionally, we have established partnerships with neighboring institutions such as North Shore Medical Center, Jackson Memorial, and Larkin Community Hospital, enabling residents to gain invaluable inpatient care experience. Our goal is to train a highly skilled and compassionate cohort of board-certified Family Medicine physicians equipped to provide comprehensive care to the community across various settings.

Our residency was established through the Teaching Health Center Planning and Development Grant, allowing FQHCs to contribute to graduate medical education and address the primary care access shortage in underserved populations.

Our residency program aims to make a positive impact on the community by actively engaging with and addressing its diverse healthcare needs. In 2020, a significant portion of our patients fell below the federal poverty level, and a notable percentage lacked insurance coverage. Our residency was established through the Teaching Health Center Planning and Development Grant, allowing FQHCs to contribute to graduate medical education and address the primary care access shortage in underserved populations. Research indicates that physicians who train in underserved areas are more likely to practice in similar settings after graduation. Consequently, Jessie Trice is committed to expanding graduate medical education in the community to meet the future healthcare needs of Miami-Dade County. Notably, in 2020, most of our patients identified as racial or ethnic minorities, emphasizing our dedication to fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and resident cohort reflective of our patient population.

The inaugural cohort of residents is scheduled to commence in 2024, with four residents per class. Throughout the three-year training program, residents will be exposed to an innovative and comprehensive curriculum. Didactics will play a pivotal role in our residency program, with a dedicated weekly academic half-day covering a wide range of topics. These topics include evidence-based medicine, clinical reasoning, physician wellness, board exam preparation, procedural skills, patient communication, practice management, and medical ethics. Moreover, residents will have access to diverse educational resources, including online databases and medical journals, to support continuous learning and self-improvement.
